Giacomo and Camillo Montanari — Ca' di Sopra
Ca’ di Sopra · Marzeno, Romagna · since 1967

A family.
A hillside.
A vision of wine.

Giacomo and Camillo Montanari, second generation
at Podere Ca’ di Sopra, Collina di Agello.

Ca’ di Sopra is a family winery founded in 1967 by Mario Montanari on the Collina di Agello, in the heart of the Marzeno subzone — a few kilometres from Faenza, Brisighella and Modigliana, in one of the most interesting wine territories in Romagna.

Across 52 hectares of land — 29 under vine, the rest apricot orchards and woodland — the Montanari family has been working the land for over fifty years. A place that has always had a strong vocation for viticulture, shaped by its particular microclimate, the predominantly clay-limestone soils, and an altitude ranging from 120 to 240 metres above sea level.

Today the estate is run by Giacomo and Camillo, Mario’s sons. Two complementary backgrounds, one shared vision: to make Marzeno a reference point in the world of wine.

From a farmstead
founded in 1967
to a vision of territory.

Ca’ di Sopra was established in 1967 when Mario Montanari acquired the first estate on the Collina di Agello, along the right bank of the Marzeno stream. In 1989, Podere Ca’ del Rosso followed — the same hillside, a different slope — completing the core of the estate.

From 2000, a renewal of the vineyard began: old plantings replaced with modern densities — 5,000 vines per hectare — and selected Sangiovese clones. A quality investment that takes time but delivers results.

It was however in 2006 that the estate made its most important transformation: the decision to translate the great enological potential of this land into bottle. Years of research, study and analysis of the best vineyards, producing a small but high-quality range, vinified in the estate cellar.

Giacomo Montanari — Ca' di Sopra
Giacomo
Oenologist · Viticulture and cellar

Graduate in Viticulture and Oenology from the University of Bologna, Giacomo oversees the vineyard and cellar. He studies the territory, follows the vines from planting to harvest, vinifies and ages the wines. His early experience at Fattoria Zerbina — the benchmark of the Marzeno — left a lasting mark on how he reads the territory and approaches Sangiovese.

Camillo Montanari — Ca' di Sopra
Camillo
Commercial · Marketing and development

Graduate in Economics with a Master’s in Wine Marketing from Florence, Camillo manages sales, communications and business development. He builds relationships with importers, restaurateurs and press — and brings the Marzeno to places where it is not yet known.

Marzeno is our home.
And it is also a dream.

Marzeno is not just the place where we work. It is where we grew up, where we learned to read the land and the seasons. And it is also something larger — a vision, an ambition, perhaps a small revolution for the wines of Romagna.

A small, precise subzone with a character you won’t find elsewhere: blue and red clays, altitude, temperature variation, a Sangiovese that knows where it comes from. In ten years, Ca’ di Sopra must be a solid reference point in Romagna viticulture — and Marzeno must have the place it deserves in the world of wine.

«As in any craft business that truly works, we both get our hands dirty. Wine isn’t made only in the cellar — it’s made in the vineyard, every day, all year round.»
